Chapter 3: Who is Derek Sonata?
Morning Came a bit earlier than expected for poor Darkness’ eyes as the light shined through a crack in the blinds while he tried to sleep. Eventually, the smell of Bourbon with the cap off found his nose and he was forced to sit upright with a grimace. “Oh Jesus CHRIST did I forget to put the cap on AND to store it in the fridge? Now it’s all swill and nasty, nobody in their right mind would drink this now!” He said as he drank the entire bottle until it was completely empty. With last night’s booze gone, he got into a black shredded T-shirt and blue jeans before doing his morning combat training, a few shots from his 1911 handguns, and some practice swings with his scythe. Eventually, he began focusing a bit until the blade turned back and he pushed it through a practice dummy, only to let the blade form again to form a complete shred. “Good… good, Aura’s all fine.” he said with a smile.
Yes yes, your killing practice is coming along quite fine” said a high pitched voice as a younger girl walked in, she was dressed in a white crop top and matching pants with rainbow colored shoes. “Hello Lyte, how was the concert?” Asked darkness as he noogied her, causing her to punch him in the arm “It was great… I really wish you would have come, it’s got to be better than staying out all night killing people!” She accused as she huffed and sighed. Darkness rolled his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose “I know you hate my job, but this is MY life, and MY job, you got to live out your dream and-”
“AND YOU STILL CAN LIVE OUT YOURS!” Protested Lyte “Big brother you know I love you, but you can’t keep doing this. I know you feel like this is all you can do since you got discharged, but there is so much more to life than this, you know Xaldin wouldn’t-”
“DO NOT SAY HIS NAME!” Interrupted Darkness, his eyes glowing purple for a few seconds before he calmed down “What happened to him…. Was on me, I accept that, same with all my friends that I lost… But the life of a musician was Derek Sonata’s dream… and he painted the brain cells used to have that dream on the side of an apartment wall.. I am just the shell of whatever he left behind…. Now come on little sister… let’s go make lunch.” He finished as he headed to the other room, he didn’t even notice how upset and hurt a now teary-eyed Lyte was.
“Derek Sonata is still in there big brother, and like it or not, I’m gonna help you realize it for yourself… and maybe then I can hear that guitar again.” She said with a sigh. After wiping her eyes a bit, she went to go eat what she could only assume would be Darkness’ favorite, A taco plate with a grape margarita to wash it down. Neither of them paid too much mind to the sound of the high-pitched squeal of a jeep outside, though both knew it could only mean silver was home. “Hey big bro, did you make sure that dress was ironed out?” asked Lyte, only to giggle as Darkness panicked and ran in fear to the master bedroom “Guess not!” she said with a snicker.
Silver happily kicked open the door and smiled “Silver’s home, how are my loves?” She asked with a smile.
“Heya Silv, Darkness is in the bedroom, I’m just finishing up some tacos before I get online to upload the song of the day.” She told her with a loving smile, but it was clear Silver knew what darkness was up to “He forgot about the dress didn’t he?” Though she didn’t even look at Lyte’s nodding head, her slow melodic stomps upstairs told Lyte the amount of danger he was in.
