The Aurian Chronicles - Chapter 5

Chapter 5: Think before you threaten!

Mr Capryse sighed and hummed a happy tune as he filed the last of his paperwork before a young striped Tiger/Rabbit hybrid delivered a plate of New York style pizza to him “LUNCH TIME! Here you are daddy, your favorite!” She said as she beamed brightly while he took his first bite “Thank you, Autumn it’s perfection.” He told her, causing her to grin wide for a bit “Oh before I forget, a Mr Zachary Farley showed up wishing to meet you… said it was important” She frowned a bit at the end, hating when her meal schedules were interrupted. Mr Capryse sighed and nodded “Allow him in… it must be VERY Important, he knows better.” He told her, but before she could leave, a short but wide blonde-haired middle-aged man walked in with a cigar in hand “You are a hard man to pencil an appointment with Tony!” he said, pointing at the door for Autumn, who only left because Mr Capryse nodded “By all means Zach make yourself at home, to what do I owe this pleasure?” He asked while continuing to eat, Zachary glared spitefully back at him. “I know your Grape-headed lapdog killed my son! Confess and pay in blood, or I will seek it elsewhere!” He accused, causing Mr Capryse to put down his slice and wipe his face. “First off, Darkness is a mercenary, not my personal attacker, it’s likely he was paid by someone Albert hurt personally, my condolences by the way… But more on the subject? Elsewhere? Whatever do you mean?”

“I know where Saryn works, ‘Pure mind solutions’ right? I can always cause that company to go under, or I Can simply wait for the next Extreme Chef Competition! Cute little girl you have there, never was one for Pants or skirts though… Easy enough target for some less than reputable criminals!” Countered Zachary with a predatory grin. At the mention of Autumn and her safety, Mr Capryse’s grin widened even more “Tell me Zachary, do you know who I was before I set up shop here?” he asked, his eyes shining as he saw Zachary’s confused silence. “They used to Call me ‘The Bad Day Killer’ or ‘Mr Bad Day’ back when I worked for Casey Taylor… It was MY job to ensure the brutal deaths I carried out made the news! Absolutely fun time for a while, but like any power drunk fool, he wanted to use my face as a threat…so he gave me this” Mr Capryse stopped talking long enough to pull out a rusty iron mask with a psychotic grin and slits for eyes with bandages hanging out. “It used to be shiny silver in color, but enough blood and time makes fools of us all, the bandages were to protect my face from the rust you see… I HATED this mask, so what do I do? I tell Casey I want to make my face scarier than this mask! He gave me that chance but on the condition, I do it to the biggest target I can get... Some high-profile mobster type, and let me tell ya bud, I tortured him for hours, sent a selfie to his father with the threat of coming for him next! One day I pull the blindfold off that old fucker and the first thing he sees? This mask… you shoulda heard him beg, I tell ya I think he even peed himself, I tell him I just wanna talk and even pulled off my mask! The sight of my face alone… gave him a heart attack!” Mr Capryse smirked a bit at the now sweating Zachary Farley “You come into MY home, accuse ME of wrongdoing, and threaten MY daughter? Now ordinarily I’d handle this here and now… But I’m a lot softer in my older age… so I’ll tell ya what Mac, get your affairs in order, and get the hell outta New York! I recommend a spot in Florida honestly, I can hook you up with a nice advisor if ya like! His name’s Daniel Lancaster, He’s a piece of shit, but he’s good at getting bigger pieces of shit off! Think about it tonight over some brandy.” Mr Capryse smirked as Zachary got up quickly “THIS ISN’T OVER YOU SON OF A BITCH!” He declared before bolting from the house. Mr Capryse just went back to eating. “This is some damn fine pizza, shame Saryn couldn’t make it home… Ah well! More for me!” He said with a chuckle while looking over his files.

The Aurian Chronicles - Chapter 4

 Chapter 4: Flawless advice!

Silver Marched upstairs to the bedroom and kicked open the door with just the right amount of strength to make an entrance without damaging the door “Hi honey I’m home!” she teased as she saw Darkness ironing her newest design, he rolled his eyes and kept working. “Hey dear, almost done finishing up!” he said in a fake happy voice as he got the last bit of wrinkle out of the stunning dress. Silver giggled slightly as she simply kissed his cheek “You know hun, if you would consult with me between kills, you wouldn’t be on the hook for this kind of work.” she told him as she casually got naked with the shades open to shine the sun on her beautifully radiant silver skin and angelic white hair. Darkness just kept at his ironing “Oh yeah babe, I’ll just make sure to call between every kill, that’s definitely time efficient!” He said with a sarcastic chuckle. Silver just grunted and unplugged the iron when his work was acceptable “You know… You don’t need to work so hard, Mr Caprese said himself you have so much vacation time built up you could take a six-month paid vacation” She started, knowing full well Darkness hated this conversation. Darkness just pinched the bridge of his nose “For the last time dear…. I’m FINE! All I gotta do is waste some assholes, and the occasional security work or odd job… besides what would I do with that kind of time off hm?” He asked as he snuggled into her gently, though the devilish grin she was sporting gave him every clue he needed to know what her first thought was. Taking pity on him, however, she sighed and curled her toes in thought “Don’t you think it’s time you visited Xaldin Honey? I know your feeling on the matter are strong but… he needs you.” Darkness wanted to yell at the ‘X word’ but Silver, although he hated to admit it, had a point. “I know I should…. But the man I spent years within the Army is gone… the medic even said himself I should move on.” He tried to argue, though the tone in his voice told her how disgusted with himself he felt saying it. “Okay DEREK, tell me this… if you truly think that’s wise, why in the hell are we in.. as you put it yourself ‘Cold ass, boring ass, fucking ass, New fucking YORK?’ I could easily move my work to Florida, and you couldn’t KEEP Lyte from her home state… so I’ll leave you with this… if you try to cast him aside… it’ll eat away at you for the rest of your life… I’m going to go eat lunch Naked on the patio.” She said as she headed downstairs. Darkness sighed as his hair went from purple to its normal black “I both hate and love when she’s right…. What do YOU all think?” he asked as he turned to his hallucinations of all his dead military friends, to him they all just sneered at him and berated him. “Yeah, I thought so…. Xaldin? It’s a date” he said as he grabbed a large bottle of illegal moonshine out of his personal freezer, it was going to be a LONG night.

The Aurian Chronicles - Chapter 3

Chapter 3: Who is Derek Sonata?

Morning Came a bit earlier than expected for poor Darkness’ eyes as the light shined through a crack in the blinds while he tried to sleep. Eventually, the smell of Bourbon with the cap off found his nose and he was forced to sit upright with a grimace. “Oh Jesus CHRIST did I forget to put the cap on AND to store it in the fridge? Now it’s all swill and nasty, nobody in their right mind would drink this now!” He said as he drank the entire bottle until it was completely empty. With last night’s booze gone, he got into a black shredded T-shirt and blue jeans before doing his morning combat training, a few shots from his 1911 handguns, and some practice swings with his scythe. Eventually, he began focusing a bit until the blade turned back and he pushed it through a practice dummy, only to let the blade form again to form a complete shred. “Good… good, Aura’s all fine.” he said with a smile.

Yes yes, your killing practice is coming along quite fine” said a high pitched voice as a younger girl walked in, she was dressed in a white crop top and matching pants with rainbow colored shoes. “Hello Lyte, how was the concert?” Asked darkness as he noogied her, causing her to punch him in the arm “It was great… I really wish you would have come, it’s got to be better than staying out all night killing people!” She accused as she huffed and sighed. Darkness rolled his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose “I know you hate my job, but this is MY life, and MY job, you got to live out your dream and-”

“AND YOU STILL CAN LIVE OUT YOURS!” Protested Lyte “Big brother you know I love you, but you can’t keep doing this. I know you feel like this is all you can do since you got discharged, but there is so much more to life than this, you know Xaldin wouldn’t-”

“DO NOT SAY HIS NAME!” Interrupted Darkness, his eyes glowing purple for a few seconds before he calmed down “What happened to him…. Was on me, I accept that, same with all my friends that I lost… But the life of a musician was Derek Sonata’s dream… and he painted the brain cells used to have that dream on the side of an apartment wall.. I am just the shell of whatever he left behind…. Now come on little sister… let’s go make lunch.” He finished as he headed to the other room, he didn’t even notice how upset and hurt a now teary-eyed Lyte was.

“Derek Sonata is still in there big brother, and like it or not, I’m gonna help you realize it for yourself… and maybe then I can hear that guitar again.” She said with a sigh. After wiping her eyes a bit, she went to go eat what she could only assume would be Darkness’ favorite, A taco plate with a grape margarita to wash it down. Neither of them paid too much mind to the sound of the high-pitched squeal of a jeep outside, though both knew it could only mean silver was home. “Hey big bro, did you make sure that dress was ironed out?” asked Lyte, only to giggle as Darkness panicked and ran in fear to the master bedroom “Guess not!” she said with a snicker.

Silver happily kicked open the door and smiled “Silver’s home, how are my loves?”  She asked with a smile.

“Heya Silv, Darkness is in the bedroom, I’m just finishing up some tacos before I get online to upload the song of the day.” She told her with a loving smile, but it was clear Silver knew what darkness was up to “He forgot about the dress didn’t he?” Though she didn’t even look at Lyte’s nodding head, her slow melodic stomps upstairs told Lyte the amount of danger he was in.

The Aurian Chronicles - Chapter 2

Chapter 2: The man who bought the world

As Darkness drove home after his final job for the night, a gentleman sat idly at his desk to mark the tally off a long list before filing it away. Mr Capryse made a light chuckle to himself as he straightened his tie and propped his feet up onto the desk “Ohhh Darkness, you were supposed to be done hours ago…. Ahhhh but I can always appreciate the overtime!” He said while taking his brown bowler hat off. As he finally tried to relax, Mr. Capryse groaned when his doorbell buzzed “It’s the funniest thing, I thought it was supposed to be late!” he muttered as he personally answered the door, to his surprise, it was a police officer. “Why hello officer to what do I owe this… frankly late visit?” He asked with a genuine smile, though she was not having it the slightest bit “Antonio Capryse my name is Lieutenant Aria Cross, I am here strictly to introduce myself… May I come in?” She asked in a firm, yet polite tone. “Why CERTAINLY!” He responded with a cheery tone as he stepped aside and casually checked on his phone. As she stepped in, even the firm Lieutenant Was slightly taken by how beautiful the mansion was, custom engravings, hand painted art, and even a lovely water fountain Greeted her eyes… That was when she looked closer, the engravings were actually quotes of last words from documented serial killers, the paintings all involved Sins of different kinds, mostly murder, and the water fountain was a statue of a headless standing corpse with the water spewing from the neck, while shorter statues of people held up umbrellas as if they were ignoring it and calling it rain. Aria shook her head and cleared her throat as she began to speak “Mr. Capryse I may be new to the NYPD, but I’ve had my eye on you for some time, and while I cannot prove the crimes you are linked to, you are always there, rest assured I will be doing due diligence, and if I find anything I…. I… EXCUSE ME!” She yelled out the last bit when she found he was casually scrolling through his phone. He chuckled gently up at her and smiled “My humble apologies ma’am, I was simply doing research on my own Aria Cross, Child of Arthur and Sharia Cross…” He started, he paid no attention to the shock of Aria, and proceeded “Top of your class, all the way through Police Academy, you even did well on the physical components, experienced in two forms of martial arts, and are currently seeing a wonderful fellow working in the NYPD…. Oh would you look at that… he seems to work in your office… but surely not under you… that’s quid pro quo you know… TSK TSK Naughty naughty!” he said as he showed a few pictures to her, causing her to pale. “Now Ms. Cross I’d love to chat longer, but it’s rather late… And I know for a fact we both have VERY busy days lined up, I hope you do better for this city than the last officer who threatened me in my own house.” He said with a dark chuckle as he pointed to a video screen of a man threatening to kill Mr. Capryse, only to be dragged out in handcuffs by his own men, Aria Cross made an audible gulp for air as she seemingly walked out in a trance. When the door closed she felt like she wanted to scream all the way until she pulled into her own driveway “.... I don’t know how… I don’t know when…. I don’t even know what I will arrest you for Capryse…. But I WILL be coming for you!” she said as she slowly walked into her house.
